Nicola V. Varrecchia, 89, Fair Lawn Resident

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Longtime Fair Lawn resident Nicola V. Varrecchia died Wednesday, Dec. 30. He was 89.

Born in Paterson, Varrecchia was a resident of Fair Lawn for the past 67 years. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Elmwood Park for 35 years, retiring in 1986.

He was an Army veteran in World War II. He was a bartender at the Upper Montclair Country Club and a member of the Italian American Progressive Club in Elmwood Park.

Varrecchia is survived by his wife 67 years, Mary (Roleson); son Nicholas and his wife Carol Smith Varrecchia; son Randy and his wife Judy La Sardo Varrecchia; daughter Cindy Varrecchia Snyder and her husband Andy Snyder; daughter Jodi Varrecchia; grandchildren Shaun, Patrick, Christine and Andrew; great-grandchildren Carter, Noah, Landon and Nicky; and siblings Joseph Varrecchia, Jennie Varrecchia Growney and Angelo Varrecchia.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, 274 Market St., Elmwood Park. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday Jan. 4, with the Rev. George Fraumann officiating. Interment will be at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, in Fair Lawn.
