OSSINING, N.Y. Ossining Town Supervisor Susanne Donnelly wants residents to keep buying locally.
Donnelly gave the message during a statement Tuesday night during the Town of Ossinings regular meeting. Donnelly said the towns finance department is still working on the state of the town financial update, but initial figures indicate a need for more sales tax dollars. Donnelly estimated an increase of the fund balance of about $2,275,000 because of a possible decrease in unpaid taxes, FEMA reimbursements and other factors.
Financially speaking, we have a tough budget and we encourage everyone to shop locally, Donnelly said. We would ask you to do that anyway because its part of being a good neighbor, but we ask you because we need the sales tax dollars.
Donnelly added that the finance department would be looking to close the 2011 books over the next few months and well give you a better view then. She said regular meetings on ongoing engineering and infrastructure issues have allowed town officials to get a better idea of work needed in the community.
Town Clerk Mary Ann Roberts confirmed Tuesday night that the town had received more than 14 bids on the S-curve on Old Albany Post Road.
Thats great news, Donnelly said. Because it really will make it competitive out there to get that work done.
Donnelly said the town was also working with FEMA on special projects and has received confirmation that the town would be receiving funding reimbursements for Tropical Storm Irene damage.
The October storm has not been cited to be a disaster, yet I personally believe that storm did more damage than Irene, Donnelly said. But well see how FEMA handles it.
Donnelly later said the board is working with the highway department on developing action plans with dates on them to update the community. Donnelly said the town has also started a Ossining Group Home Taskforce to develop work on group homes.
Lastly, Donnelly stated she sent a letter to the states legislative task opposing new proposed redistricting that would place the Village and Town of Ossining in the 38th Senate District along with Ramapo, Clarkstown and Orangetown in Rockland County, calling the proposal unacceptable.
Town Council member Peter Tripodi, who previously made statements opposing the redistricting plan, recently started a Facebook page called Ossining is Not In Rockland County, which hopes to get the message out about the redistricting process.
