Workers Excavate Cable at Four Corners in Pelham

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – A crew dug into the street at the corner of Pelhamdale Avenue and Boston Post Road on Monday after a cable malfunctioned.

Workers from Bibeau Construction, a company subcontracted by Verizon, used machinery to excavate the cable. Foreman Louie Irizarry said the crew would turn the cable over to Verizon workers once it was dug out.

The cable runs from the manhole at the corner, under the nearby pizzeria and into the residences behind it. Irizarry said the work could take anywhere from six hours to the entire night, but had some information about the malfunction.

"It's old," Irizarry said. "You get electrolysis, water in the line."

The foreman said that the crew would secure the hole with a temporary plate and backfill it after Verizon gets the cable.

Irizarry directed traffic with an orange flag while workers dug into the street.
