On Friday, officers were called to the intersection of Post Road and Hulls Highway for a two-car accident, police said. According to the police report, 60-year-old Kathleen Ziobro of Fairfield had been turning onto the Post Road toward Westport from Hulls Highway when her car struck a car traveling on the Post Road.
When officers arrived, Ziobro said she couldn't remember an accident but said that if she had been in one, she hit a pole not another car, police said. The driver of the second car told officers that Ziobro had made a sudden turn onto the Post Road and the driver had been unable to avoid the accident.
Ziobro failed three field sobriety tests, spoke in broken sentences and had pinpoint pupils, police said. She said she had not ingested any alcohol or prescription drugs. She was charged with DUI and failure to obey traffic signs. She was released on $50 bond to the custody of her son, and given a court date of April 29.
On Saturday, officers responded to an accident on Grasmere Avenue and Kings Highway between a car and a scooter, police said.
According to the police report, the car had been traveling north on Grasmere toward the I-95 entrance ramp when it hit the scooter in a turn-only lane to Kings Highway.
The driver of the car, Bryan Satmary, 25, of Stratford, told officers that he didn't see the scooter, police said. The officers reported smelling alcohol, and Satmary admitted to having had a few drinks at Chubbys that night, police said.
Satmary failed three field sobriety tests and was charged with failure to drive right, driving under the influence, operating an unregistered vehicle, and failure to insure the motor vehicle.
No injuries were reported, but the driver of the scooter was issued an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to have a license.
