RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye City School District's Board of Education met Monday at the Wainwright house to begin preparing for the upcoming school year.
"It's important to set out our goals and priorities for the coming year," said Laura Slack, board president.
The seven-member board at Stack met from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to review current and prospective district employee contracts, approve private donations to the district, and to go over fiscal items related to school programs and bids for contract projects.
Regarding professional appointments, the board reviewed one teacher's request for a leave of absence, a new administrative position, two new teaching positions, four replacement teaching positions and another unspecified job within the district.
A full report will be compiled and released at a later date, detailing the appointments and other particulars of the meeting. All employee contracts were discussed behind closed doors for the purposes of confidentiality until final decisions have been made.
Slack officially took office July 1 after being elected by the board June 28. She served as vice president for three years prior.
"A lot of people think we don't do any work during the summer," said Slack. "But we're working hard."
