Three separate issues teamed up to create Monday's delays, according to Metro-North. At 5:50 a.m., an issue with the third rail in the Park Avenue Tunnel and a signal circuit issue near Mott Haven shortly after 6 a.m. shut down two out of the four tracks in the Bronx area.
In addition to the track issues, a Harlem Line train became disabled just south of the 125th Street station at about 8 a.m., according to Metro-North.
Operational crews responded immediately to resolve each issue, but because these separate incidents occurred in an area where all three lines converge, it caused train congestion to quickly build up, resulting in the delays, Metro-North said on its website.
