Pelham Man Points Out Technical Issues to Board

VILLAGE OF PELHAM -- John Cassone attends most of the Village of Pelham board meetings in person. Those who cannot or choose not to attend the meetings twice a month can watch them on Channel 75.

At least, they are supposed to be able to do so.

According to Cassone during the public comment portion of Tuesday night's meeting, the board's meetings are broadcast in poor video and audio quality. "I think it turns a lot of people off from watching," he said.

The Pelham resident said the issue arose approximately six to ten weeks ago and the board said it would look into buying newer video equipment. The board responded by saying that it now has $18,000 to spend on new equipment but needs to find the proper gear.

"We're just investigating the best system to replace the current system," village administrator Robert Yamuder said Wednesday. "We're looking into it. It's on our radar."

Cassone said the audio quality is poor and also informed the board that the date and time of the meetings do not appear on screen so it is difficult to determine which meeting viewers are watching.

Normally, the board tapes its meetings for future reference and simultaneously airs them live, but the cameraman could not be present Tuesday night so the meeting could not be broadcast live on the air.

Even though he attends the meetings regularly, Cassone said the problems with the broadcasts are obvious.

"Try to watch Channel 75 and you'll answer your own question," Cassone said.
