Mount Vernon Settles Lawsuit With Brothers For $250K

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The city of Mount Vernon has agreed to pay two brothers from Long Island $250,000 to settle a suit alleging police officers beat them outside of a club in October 2013, according to lohud.com.

Ivan Nunez and his brother, Joel Nunez, were injured during an altercation with police about 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 28, 2013, according to lohud.com, which reported that the incident occurred outside of a Gramatan Avenue strip club.

While Ivan Nunez was arrested at the scene and later pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct, the brothers ultimately filed a suit claiming they were unjustly beaten by officers with nightsticks, according to lohud.com.

The settlement bringing the $250,000 to the Islip Terrace, N.Y., brothers was approved by the Board of Estimate and Contract on March 28, according to lohud.com.
