Cranbury Comes Back From Cooperstown as Champs

NORWALK, Conn. – The third time was the charm for the Cranbury All-Stars. The Norwalk-based youth baseball league won its first-ever Cooperstown Wood Bat Classic Championship. It was the league’s third trip to the tournament in baseball's heartland and the first by the league’s 11- and 12-year-old Broncos.

Cranbury did just about everything right in the long weekend of baseball, pounding out 52 hits, scoring 42 runs and winning four of its five games played. The offense was all the more impressive since the boys had to use wood bats instead of the metal used in youth baseball. The pitching and fielding were top-notch as well, with Cranbury hurlers posting a 2.18 ERA and 28 strikeouts and fielders committing just two errors.

Cranbury dominated host team Cooperstown, N.Y., taking the title game, 11-1. Matt Troy, Zachary White and Eddie McCabe led off the bottom of the first with three consecutive doubles. Cranbury never looked back from there.

Cranbury defeated Cooperstown and Chatham, N.J., twice in the tournament. Its only loss came against Oneonta, N.Y. Renn Lintz struck out 17 in two appearances, while Matt Donaher cranked Cranbury's lone home run in the tournament.

The summer is just getting started for the Cranbury Bronco All-Stars. They still have the Bronco Tournament in late July, the Nutmeg Games in New Britain and the Baseball Heaven Tournament in Yaphank, N.Y.

This was the third straight year Cranbury baseball has been invited to the Cooperstown Wood Bat Classic. In addition to competing in the tournament, the kids all got tickets to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Cranbury Bronco All-Stars include Richard Clemens, Max Berman, Matt Donaher, Tommy Troy, Matt Troy, Ryan Williams, Eddie McCabe, Renn Lintz, A.J. Bella, Noah Roman, Quinn Sandor, Josh Romano, Zachary White, A.J. Hall, Justin Buswell and Marco Montiero.
