Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced this week that at least 10 COVID-19 cases have been identified in relation to an early polling site at Stony Brook University's location in Southampton.

Of the confirmed cases, six of the 10 people worked at the polling site.

Each of the infected people is in isolation, and contact tracing led to 48 people entering quarantine who may have been exposed, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said.

Suffolk County has not been below a 1 percent positivity rate since Wednesday, Oct. 21. Last week, the county averaged a 1.5 percent positivity rate over seven days. Hospitalizations, which had been averaging in the 20s, are now back up in the 40s, Bellone said.

There are more than 40 people hospitalized in Suffolk, with four ICU patients being treated for the virus.

"If precautions aren't taken, and even if precautions are taken," gatherings can lead to clusters, Bellone said. He said it's critical to contain the spread of COVID-19 so the region can continue its economic recovery.
