YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Hudson Valley Afterschool Network is hosting a legislative breakfast at Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers.
The breakfast is slated for 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Nepperhan Community Center at 342 Warburton Avenue in Yonkers, according to a press release. The purpose of the legislative breakfast is to discuss the importance of continued funding for afterschool programming, according to the release. Planned speakers for the breakfast include City of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, Superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools Bernard Pierorazio, Denora Nieves and Sonia Brown, according to the release.
"This is an important opportunity for afterschool program providers, legislators and stakeholders to come together and discuss collaborative efforts to ensure that all Hudson Valley children have the opportunity to benefit from high quality afterschool programs, and the critical importance of continued funding," representatives said in the release. "As well, this is an opportunity for organizations to learn more about HVAN membership and benefits, and hear how the New York State Afterschool Network (NYSAN) is working to advance the afterschool and expanded learning field in New York State."
HVAN is a "voluntary network that includes all stakeholders in after school programs: providers, funders, policy makers, educators, schools, school districts, youth, families and diverse community organizations," according to the release.
