Uniqlo Joins List Of Retailers To Open At Ridge Hill

YONKERS, N.Y. – An ultra-hip Japanese clothing store in the midst of an American expansion has tabbed Yonkers as its next destination.

Uniqlo has announced it will open two mall locations in the spring of 2013, one at Ridge Hill Shopping Center in Yonkers and another at Palisades Center in West Nyack. 

In a statement, the retailer said the Ridge Hill location will occupy two levels and total 24,000 square feet.

“After a successful launch this past fall at Westfield Garden State Plaza, Uniqlo’s prototype for our mall locations, we are continuing our commitment to roll-out locations at shopping malls across the U.S.," said Shin Odake, CEO of Uniqlo USA. “With a dedicated fan base in the New York tri-state area, both Palisades Center and Ridge Hill are the natural next step in our expansion plans.”

Uniqlo was created in 1984 when it opened its first store in in Hiroshima, Japan. Since then, the brand has expanded across the globe. Currently, Uniqlo has five stores in the United States, including three in New York City and one in Paramus, N.J.

On its website, the retailer says its clothing is “simple and essential yet universal” and  “transcend all categories and social groups.”

Uniglo is the latest on a list of retailers to announce they will open up shop at Ridge Hill in the near future.  Brooks Brothers, Haagen Dazs, Art of Shaving and Bonefish Grill are also expected to open in early 2013.
