The Junior League of Bronxville is accepting grant applications from tax-exempt nonprofit organizations in Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe and Yonkers.

Grant requests should be for an immediate and specific need and be related to the alleviation of hunger, the improvement of nutrition or the improvement of the welfare of girls or women. Special consideration will be given to requests that will enhance, rather than simply maintain, such programs. Also, it prefers projects where the effects of the grant will last beyond the one-year grant period.

Grants for general operating support will not be considered. Requests can be in any amount, but previous awards generally have been up to $2,000.

These community grants are a resource for community nonprofits, said Erica Sevilla, the group's vice president.

"These grants provide support for small initiatives that have the potential to enrich lives and help make more of an impact in our service area," Sevilla said. "In the past, the JLB has been able to provide grants to support daily hot soup for homebound seniors, basketball camp scholarships, instruction in nutrition and healthy lifestyles for children, and nutritional supplements for cancer patients. As an organization we feel privileged to be able to help so many in our community."

For applications and for more information, contact the league's community grants chair, Jennifer Colao, at jncolao@gmail.com. The deadline to submit an application is Jan. 31.
